ISST Supervision Training as Part of the Certification Process

This training covers the supervision process that follows the Basic Level Training stage, which is a mandatory component of the International Schema Therapist Certification process. Supervision is one of the most important components of the certification process, enabling the integration of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice.
Throughout this process, participants are expected to apply the Schema Therapy model to their own cases, develop their case conceptualization skills, and deepen their therapeutic interventions.

Participation Requirements

The following requirements must be met to participate in the supervision process:

A brief preliminary interview may be requested prior to supervision when deemed necessary.

Supervision Process

The supervision process is conducted in accordance with the standards established by the International Society for Schema Therapy.

Clinical Requirements for Certification

Basic Level Certification:

Advanced Level Certification:

The specified durations and hours are minimum requirements. The supervisor reserves the right to require additional supervision hours or additional case follow-up prior to the application.

Case Requirements

Cases followed during the supervision process must meet specific criteria:

  • At the Basic Level, at least one of the cases being followed is expected to involve a personality pattern.
  • At the Advanced Level:
    • One case involving a severe personality disorder (Borderline, Narcissistic, or Antisocial Personality Disorder)
    • One case is expected to involve a Cluster C personality disorder (Avoidant, Dependent, or Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder).

Scope of Supervision

  • Supervision is conducted exclusively through adult individual Schema Therapy cases.
  • Throughout the process, the translation of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice, case conceptualization, and intervention plans are addressed.
  • Participants are expected to:
    • Prepare session summaries
    • Bring video recordings of their sessions to supervision

For standard certification, working with two cases is required. It is important that at least one of these cases involves a personality pattern and is suitable for mode work.

Group Supervision Plans

Supervision can be conducted individually or in small groups. Group supervision offers a framework that both enriches learning and provides exposure to diverse case perspectives.
